The EVERYbody Project is a gender-inclusive, diversity-focused body image intervention for college students created by the EBI research team in 2016. The EVERYbody Project was shaped through focus group feedback from college students (Ciao et al., 2017) and by adapting an existing dissonance-based body image program called the Body Project (Stice, Shaw, Burton, & Wade, 2006). The EVERYbody Project directly discusses diversity within cultural appearance ideals (including race, gender identity, sexuality, ability, and age) and critiques the individual and collective impact of pursuing exclusive appearance norms. It is a universal program, open to all college students regardless of body image concerns or social identities.
The EVERYbody Project is situated in a universal prevention framework and it aims to decrease body image concerns and reduce eating disorder risk in vulnerable individuals. Another goal is to further body liberation through critical group conversation – a commitment to challenging the systems of oppression that dictate how certain bodies are deemed more worthy based on identity-driven appearance characteristics (e.g., body size, skin color, hair texture) and narrow definitions of health and attractiveness.
